According the the docs, installing the

It lies! At least if you delete one that is already in the
organizer and
try to drag in a new one. You have to manually drag it into your
user/library/MobileDevice/Provisioning Profiles folder before it
will work.
You shouldn't ever have to do that. Please file a bug, describing
exactly what you did.
That (and a few other issues) finally got me through.
BTW, maybe everyone but me knew this, but if you want to debug
on the
phone itself, you have to permanently destroy your $700 iPhone for
any
normal use (like telephone).
This is simply not true. Nothing that Xcode (or any provisioning
profile) does to your phone can possibly affect your cell-phone
service.
What is the symptom that the "telephone" function of the 3GS has been
clobbered?
I got my 3GS first thing on the 19th. At 10:30 that morning, the phone
said "Connect to IITunes to activate the IPhone or enter your SIM
PIN", I had not set a PIN on my SIM and ITunes did not recognize the
iPhone. By noon I was back at the Apple store. The store employee who
had sold me the phone noticed me and asked "How's the new iPhone?" I
explained the problem and he disappeared into the back with my iPhone.
Five minutes he was back with my iPhone functioning again. He
suggested that if the phone acted up again, take it into AT&T and have
the SIM card replaced. Well, by Saturday morning, the iPhone crapped
out again, reporting that there was no SIM card. I took it into AT&T
and in two minutes the SIM card was replaced. The phone has been rock
solid since.

Phil
