Telephones that have operating systems... Does anyone remember those old
rotary assemblages that were mostly mechanical and took up almost the same
space as a brick of ice cream and had big four-prong plugs? THOSE sure as
hell didn't have an OS.

Sure they did; it's just that the OS was implemented totally in analog/mechanical hardware. :)


It's the Strowger switch, and it has an interesting history. Look into Wikipedia.
