Never heard of it. :) But I have been down a similar road. If you end
up creating your own UTI, try to communicate with other developers that
have apps that use that file type and come to an agreement on a UTI
definition. Then file a Radar with your proposal. I went this route
and got several UTIs added to 10.6. There does not seem to be the
equivalent of the old creator code database anywhere. It would be great
it someone set up a wiki to gather all UTIs for common file formats.
I'm not talking about every app's proprietary format, but common formats
that everyone uses. Apple has many covered of course, but not all.
Maybe a page on <www.cocoadev.com> is in order...
If different apps end up declaring different UTIs for the same
extension, then one will win out, and the other app could end up with
its open panels not working!
Oh how I wish we had better filesystem metadata!
