Add the Shift key, e.g., Shift-Option-Command-LeftArrow.  You might check whether this is settable in the Key Bindings prefs.

I agree it feels too granular but the old way could also be frustrating when I jumped around within a file, e.g. by Command-double-clicking or using the methods menu.
