Interface Builder Confusion

So I have been using the book "Programming in Objective-C 2.0" by
Kochan (copyright 2009) Second Edition to upgrade my skills from ANSI
Standard C to Objective-C (utilizing XCode on my MacBook of course as
my dev environment).
I just started my quest to learn how to use the Interface Builder. I
picked up the book "Learning Cocoa with Objective-C" (Oreilly Book
Copyright 2001) and it does not appear to track well with my version
of Interface Builder (my version is 3.1.2). For example following the
tutorial on pages 35 to 40 it states to open the main.nib file. My
version of IB does not generate a nib file but generates an xib file
outside the Resources folder when creating a NEW PROJECT as a COCOA
APPLICATION. Well thats just the beginning of the tracking differences.
Is there a current book that tracks accurately with version 3.1.2 of
Interface Builder?
Thanks,
Amanda Rains
