It was clearly copied from IDEs on other platforms, for example Eclipse or Visual Studio.

I have used a Mac since the 128Kb in 1985, adopted OS X when the beta first came out in 2001, never owned a Windows machine and yet, didn't have any problem with Xcode 4 design. Since we seem to go on wild assumptions, maybe it has more to do whether your left brain hemisphere is more developed than your right brain hemisphere? I don't know, I'm not a psychologist, just trying to find an explanation why some people seems to be OK with the new Xcode while others will try to beat it to death as much as they can….

Of course, I'm not trying to negate your arguments. I don't want to alienate anybody here, you never know who's help you might need down the road. I just find it interesting that many people have been so vocal about the changes in Xcode 4. I know for a fact that we, humans, are creatures of habits. If you throw in the mix everybody's own personality, I guess that might explain those protests. People who are impulsive, chaotic (I'm not saying this in a negative way) probably feels secure when they have windows overlapping everywhere on the screen, while people that are more tidy or organized would probably be unable to work in such environment. I think it would be interesting to have a picture of your work area as it probably reflects your own personality. Again, I'm in no way a psychologist so I could be wrong!
