This is the source of the anguish. Persons who are creative, work best in an environment that suits their style and conditions. Forcing anyone to conform to another style is counter productive.
My own style is also modified by the resources available. When I am at my desk, with a full keyboard, mouse, and three large displays, as well as stacks of papers, I "spread out" to consume all of that space that is within arm's reach.
However, if I am on my laptop, in an airline seat, then I prefer the orderly "one window" style.
The best tools are those that allow me to customize their presentation, and save (possibly multiple) layouts that I have specified. Anybody who thinks that any "one size fits all" solution is best is looking from the manufacturing side and not from the customer view. It's like clothing. Off-the-rack garments may cover your body, but they never fit like a custom tailored suit. If you have never experienced the difference, you may not understand. If you have, you'll never be satisfied with the lower quality.
