Other options might be to just distribute unified diffs and have your
recipient integrate them using Larry Wall's patch(1), but that (a)
presumes that you have something to diff against (requiring some sort
of version management scheme or tool) and (b) is lousy at capturing a
large class of important "change events" such as file
move/rename/delete, metadata/permission changes and the like.
