I am not surprised. XC4 is very CPU intensive.
I first noticed this when I got half the battery life on my 2009 MBP than when developing in Eclipse. So kept an eye on CPU usage, and sure enough, whenever I do *anything at all* in XCode, the CPU spikes. It's not a bug per se as CPU usage goes to 0 when xc4 is not in use - it's just very, very inefficient.
Thinking about getting an i7 quad MBP for that reason. I already have a SSD but that doesn't help of course.
I am hoping they can make it more efficient in the future. Should be possible considering Java is supposed to be more inefficient than native code... Eclipse has way more features and code analysis running at any given time, yet is using much less CPU.
