Renaming/moving /Developer?

When Xcode was installed through Installer.app, it was possible to choose another name or location for what would by default be the /Developer directory. Xcode 4.1 doesn't offer that choice. I don't see any architectural change that would preclude renaming /Developer or copying it into an external drive (for instance), but I am loath to try.
Does anyone know for sure?
