I haven't looked at Xc4 yet, so I may be speaking in ignorance, but
isn't this dispute about the loss of the ability to freely position
windows? I can have lots of source windows "open" in Visual C++. But
that does not make me happy - I can't put them where I like and I
can't size them as I like; they are restrained by the pane system. So
I use Xc3 for editing in Visual C++, and it sounds like I'll keep
doing that.

Dave, you are aware that you CAN open as many windows as you wish
with Xc4, yes?
This is technically true, but in practice it doesn't really work well.
Aside from the fact that the new windows have a lot of chrome (even
when collapsed), try this: Open a .m and a .h in two separate windows.
Then from the .m file, invoke the "show counterpart" command (I don't
remember what it's called). It should just bring the .h window you
already have open forward. But the last time I tried this, it switched
the contents of the .m with the contents of the .h.
