I personally loathe this Windows 2.0 point of view. The world has evolved. Macintosh happened in 1984.
Ha ha ha. Nice strawman.
When at the bottom of a hole, stop digging.
Yes, the world has evolved, leaving Mac OS as the sole windowing GUI that hasn't recognized the failure of the single-menu.
Read about Fitts' law and come back to explain us how a menu bar at the top of the screen is not a good thing.
whole-screen-as-one-window approach.
are you trolling, or are you really sooooo deeply glued to your menu-bar-defines-what-the-window-is paradigm?
And that doesn't even let you resize windows from anywhere but their lower-right corners. And that doesn't restore minimized windows when you command-tab to their application (a welcome but botched adoption of a Windows convention).
And there are other retrograde limitations we could cite, but why bother.
Sure. I agree. These are details where OS X can (and possibly will) be improved. That doesn't add nor subtract anything to the current issue.
And your conclusion about overlapping windows doesn't follow from anything said, so you should probably review the arguments made and make sure you understand them; you might find you agree with them.
You lost me here. So let me summarize:
1- You claim single window is better
2- I reply by pointing out that single window is less flexible than many windows, if only because I can have them overlap.
So would you care to explain why you think that my "conclusion about overlapping windows doesn't follow from anything said"?
And if you want several screens, you should detest the Mac's limited single-screen orientation more than anyone. You like rolling to the top of a different monitor to access the menu?
I don't find any limitation in my three-screen desktop. Would you care to enlighten me... Fitts' law again.

In French we say "l'hôpital qui se fout de la charité". I don't think I know how to translate that in English. But I suspect you wouldn't like the translation.
