No offense but this question sounds biased to me. What I hear in it is that the "preferred," "typical," or "reasonable" usage model is to work on a single nib, source file, whatever, at a time. As has been discussed repeatedly in this thread, there is no such thing since everybody organizes their development environment in the way that works best for them, not the "typical" user.

I often do that when working on a nib that's a variant of an existing one. That would include cases like modifying an iPad version of an iPhone nib to take advantage of the larger device screen real estate, and so some or all of the UI is being changed. In such cases I want to see both nibs at the same time since I'm using the "original" as a reference.
