Dash is fast because they backwards engineered some stuff. I hope it doesn't break, but it could.

The developer really deserves kudos/success (if only because he's done what Apple for some reason have failed to do: create a usable docs browser). It comes with 2 window styles 'standard' and 'HUD'. I suspect you've seen earlier incarnations of the latter. Switch it to Standard.
