I appreciate the suggestion, However
TextMate appears to be payware. This for me is non remunerative
work, so there is no budget for it. 30 day trial is not good
enough as it has been over 30 days since I last looked at these
files.
Xcode is both the code highlighting as well as the integration
with Git version control that had me interested in seeing if
Xcode would work. At least the TextEdit app will open almost any
file, which is what I have been using.

I don't think Xcode's syntax highlighting is extensible, but
TextMate's is, and there is a PostScript bundle for TextMate (I
think it's built-in.)
I would recommend TextMate over Xcode for working with any
languages other than C/Obj-C/C++. It's a lot more flexible and
extensible.
