Hold on here, we are drifting way out
of my depth. This is not the time or place to discuss economic
models. There are forums specifically for that.
Instead let me thank those here for suggestions that were on
topic. I was able to install the textWrangler, I opened up the
app folder and dropped the postscript.plist into it. Seems to
work as the code is highlighted.
I also installed sourcetree. Looks promising. I just installed
the git for mac (and git for windows yesterday.) so it looks like
this is an opportune time to work with learning the new methods of
CVS.

Why? How do you think Bare Bones Software makes money? They
make a product people think is worth paying for.
I find it ironic that Apple used to pay me to
write programs for them. Now I must pay them for the
privilege.
Um, where do you think the money Apple used to pay you came
from?
I'm an ex-Apple employee too and I have no problem paying for
OS upgrades and shiny new laptops.
But really, what does Apple have to do with it? Xcode is
free. The commercial software we're talking about belongs to
other companies.
