I am setting up a new (to me) Mac, because my trusty Mac mini is getting a little too slow for big compiles. (Fortunately the mini is still purring along beautifully).
I have upgraded the new machine to Lion, and installed Xcode 4.3. I should have done more research before choosing 4.3, sigh.
This has made it difficult to install a lot of things I depend on. I also installed the command line stuff for 4.3; this (with the addition of the older SDKs) allowed me to install a few things such as the Haskell Platform. The main problem is that I cannot install many things from macports that I use frequently. Apparently 4.3 breaks macports in lots of ways. I did get quite a few ports to install correctly, but the macports site still suggests that 4.3 does not work.
The docs on 4.3 suggest that it can coexist with 4.2. I know it sounds hazardous, but what are the chances that I could install 4.2 AFTER having installed 4.3 without screwing things up?
If that is not feasible, how can I completely remove 4.3? I am aware that the vast majority of 4.3 is in the app bundle. What about the command line stuff, and any settings that might be in place?
Thanks.
