Small update. I re-installing Xcode (ran
Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools; then ran the Install Xcode app),
but the problem still exists - Instruments' Counters and Event
Profiler instruments don't work.
I took a screenshot of the problem last week and forgot to include it.

I tried on my MacPro with success:
- I can add events to the Counters instruments
- the Manage PM Events window shows the name of the processor and all
avaliable events.
- recording works.
Any ideas, or is Instruments on the MacBook Air just unsupported?
