Awesome, thank you.  This explains much.  Downloading and reinstalling the cert.

And for why I was never able to get a distribution cert to work?  Someone never assigned me the privs to do so.  

Thanks all for helping me through this joyous mess.  You're on my Christmas list, or in my will, which ever comes first.

The device ids are embedded in the provisioning file, otherwise you'd be unable to install on a device that wasn't exposed to the public internet.

So if you add a device to the profile, that profile needs to be downloaded to Xcode and the app resigned using it.
