The Mac App Store app will tell you about updates to Xcode, in the same way that it would tell you about updates to other apps that you've downloaded from the Mac App Store. Note that this only works if your copy of Xcode was downloaded and installed from the Mac App Store to begin with.

Thanks.  It seems likely that I just downloaded the disk image, because I have multiple machines and sometimes update on the road.

For example, two days ago I installed Xcode while on a plane.  And once again, the documentation wasn't installed.

How do we communicate to [insert responsible party here] that this is unacceptable?  It has been brought up repeatedly.  I want to install the documentation with Xcode, from disk.  Right away, every time.
