I've felt that way lately. I agree with some of the comments about discussion reaching a critical mass as possibly being, a better way to deal with this than bug reporter, or in conjunction with. It's sad to think that more attention may be paid to these issues if a need to squelch bad publicity arose, rightfully so in this case.
I think we should see by the fact that there isn't even a legitimate developer tools installer anymore, but piece meal bits of kit, that there's both a figurative and literal lack of cohesion going on.
If the pace of software release is prohibiting the software from being stable, the pace absolutely must slow down, and proper testing needs to happen first. As it is, it is as if there's a race to show us how quickly you can update yourselves into destruction.
Proper testing does not mean putting the onus upon outside developers vetting often lacking software. It has to be shored up by Apple truly testing the releases on a variety of hardware, as packaged, not bits at a time and then thinking that all of the ingredients will "just work".
Right now, it barely matters at the clip that iDevices sell at, in all likeliness, but I don't think that Apple can afford to continue burning bridges over the long run.
For the record, I still think it's a great system, or at least has the potential to be once again. Taking proper time, delaying release as long as needed, and paying more attention to even "mid level" details, let alone small details, will earn the kind of good will that Apple has enjoyed from developers and users in the past.
