Actually it does. That is why it is a point size, not a pixel size. The point of points as a type unit is that whatever item uses them will display at the same size no matter what the resolution, DPI/PPI of the device is. 12 point type is supposed to be the same height in inches in print, on a cell phone, on an iPad, on a TV, laser etched in to granite.

The physical height if a piece of n point text isn't supposed to change, no matter what. That's how points are supposed to work.
