I haven't studied your message closely, so this may be off the mark.

But don't forget that you can put aliases to both applications into your
Scripting Additions folder, name the aliases anything you want (for example,
to make it easy, "FMP4" and "FMP5"), then tell the alias to do something as
if it were the application. All you should have to do in your situation is
test the creator of a document, then tell the appropriate alias to process
it. Since each alias knows exactly which application it points to, there
shouldn't be any confusion.
