from much experience with certain aspects of XPress
scripting, and concerted dabbling with InDesign
scripting, i'd agree that the two are both highly
scriptable, but XPress has a large number of
feature gaps, bugs and inconsistencies compared to
InDesign's scripting implementation. Quark has more
marketshare so far, and its users have more collective
scripting experience to share, but i think InDesign
might be the least frustrating to someone just getting
into scripting layout apps.
(note that i'm talking scripting merits here, the
overall comparison is quite off-topic.)
