i think they need to just fix Finder in the first place
before worrying about making it recordable.

i think when applications have a good scripting
implementation such an OSAX is much less necessary. you
might look at QuicKeys, though, and see if it works for this

the documentation is certainly lacking, but Apple does make
a good attempt, including scripts and tutorials linked from
this page:
