Nothing is easier than scripting the Eudora Address Book and it is extremely flexible allowing for the creation of any number of fields and the retrieval of data in several ways. Like everything else in Eudora, the files remain readable as text files and can therefore be exported in any form you like, parsed in milli-seconds by perl etc.

Nothing in Eudora is easy to script. The terminolgy is utterly non-standard and meaningless...'personality' for example.

The speed of perl wrt to Eudora is meaningless to me. I don't use perl. I use AppleScript. Eudora's AS dictionary is still a fetid confusing pile of snakes best dealt with in a pub. As well, the Eudora address book is rather limited compared to Entourages.

A lot of work was done a couple of years ago getting the address book right in Eudora and getting the dictionary right and working properly, and it is all very straightforward and extremely flexible.

too bad it's killed by confusing application terminology.

If you find anything obscure in it, perhaps you'll let the list know exactly what and I'll be happy to demonstrate that your impressions are illusory.

exactly what does a personality have to do with a mail account. I'm not logging in as someone else, nor am I performing some odd 'su' -like operation. I'm simply checking a mail account.

Why do I have two terms that seem to mean other things. Mailboxes would seem to be what personalities actually are. Folders would seem to be what mailboxes are. Why are folders there at all?

Why does Eudora's IMAP implementation suck so bad that it's almost unusable.

Why does the Windows version still have a lot of UI features that I will evidently never get on the Mac.
