This may sound counter-intuitive, but have you tried duplicating the
QuickTime Player (give the second copy a different name, like
QT_Player_2) and the addressing each copy of the application to open
just one movie?
I have tried this when I was still looking for a possibility to
present the two movies on two screens. As it didn't work out (playing
them worked, I think), I didn't follow this path anymore.
The performance problem when automating the process of playing the
two movies with one player occurred when I had given up on presenting
them.
But why should Window Manager be less of a problem when I call two
QuickTime Players from AppleScript than with the one player I'm
calling now?
Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Klaus
