I almost never use TextEdit for anything (abundance of better text editors), but I have a need to do something with it this week. I note that running the following

tell application "TextEdit"
tell document 1
make new paragraph at end of paragraphs with data "Hello World"
end tell
end tell

doesn't make a new paragraph. Repeated runs just stack words into the first paragraph. It appears that the only way to get a new paragraph in a TextEdit document is to put in a slug of text with a return in it. Is this thing really that lame?

Bill,

By your one script criteria these products, when I substitute their application name for TextEdit, are probably also "lame":

Microsoft Word (version 2004)
TextWrangler (version 2.1.1)

BTW, did you actually want to know how to get your script working in TextEdit? I asked my question, because you never actually asked to assistance.

BTW2, Tex-Edit Plus (version 4.9.6) does work as you expect with your script. I saw by another post that your solution to TextEdit not working the way you expect is to have someone else do work ...

Good luck,
