You've presumed that I used it in the context of arguing in formal
logic. I did not state that I was arguing in formal logic. In fact,
my remarks were decidedly informal. "Begs the question" as used
informally is a takeoff on "beggar the question", not a shortened
form of it. It does not imply that the statement remarked upon was a
tautology.
Rather, it disputes the premise indirectly.
