I don't think you are doing anything wrong. I think Script Editor
changed from producing scripts with a resource-fork to scripts with
a data fork.
You might try toggling the run-only flag and see if that make a
difference?

Setting the run-only flag is really dangerous, if you set it, you
will no longer be able to edit your script.
One may use it but it is important to keep an editable copy.
This is one reason why I always keep a pure text version of my scripts.
To get rid of the described oddity, save as an "application" . If it
is not sufficient, the "run only" setting will bring nothing more,
except problems.
