I suspect that's just whole blocks vs actual bytes. Even a 1-byte
file can't take up less than a whole block of disk space, which will
show up as something like "4KB on disk (1 byte)".
2) du shows 2.5MiB (that's two point five) in human readable terms.
Only 2.5? You sure you didn't drop a digit somehow? I'm still on
Leopard, but TextEdit.app is 22M here according to du (while Finder
reports 15,050,855 bytes).
