I changed to appl code to ...
on run tell me to (path to resource "Folder_Link") tell application "Finder" to open original item of alias file (the result) end run
I tested this one in both Snow and Lion. I can't get problem 2 to reappear. Perhaps due to the change? Or perhaps not?
It does work in both systems. I need to find the 'alias-to-folder' icon in the system somewhere and give it that icon. I can put a copy of this appl in my main appl's Resources and copy it into the menu folder, then stuff an alias file renamed "Folder_Link" into the copy's Resource folder and rename the appl.
This still seems to be an overly complicated solution to a simple problem that ought to have a simple solution.
(in other words ... there ought to be a preference for this. Or perhaps the Dock should require the user to press the option key to follow aliases into folders. Who at Apple should see this?)
