I accept that there are reasoned arguments on both sides . . .I'm just not convinced by either side that top, bottom, or inline is markedly superior or that any of them break any "rules". Maybe it's splitting hairs a bit . . .but the "rules" that were quoted were built for usenet and not email. Is email ay different? Sure . . .but then it's sort of the same too. Is the general computer sophistication of users more or less today than it was when usenet was king and the "rules" were written? The average user *today* is far less sophisticated then 20 years ago.
In any event . . .as I've said . . .I'm pretty much agnostic regarding posting style . . .I'm smart enough to follow conversations with any of the three options . . .and as long as my primary mail client (Mail) top posts by default then that's pretty much what I'll use since it's the easiest thing to do. Should Apple offer a preference to switch . . .then that's an Apple sanctioned patch and not something that (arguably) breaks with each system update; then I might switch because as I said . . .I don't really have a preference either way.
There are good reasons for top posting . . .and equally good reasons for bottom posting as have been expressed in the debate already. I'm just not convinced that either of the sets of reasons is obviously superior . . .the anti-top posts have pretty much disregarded the pro-top poster's reasons and called them invalid. I haven't seen such a rejection of the other side's reasons by the pro-top posts.
Obviously Bruce didn't care enough to bottom post . . .so maybe it doesn't matter to him either:-)

There are only three kinds of stress; your basic nuclear stress, cooking stress, and A$$hole stress. The key to their relationship is Jello.
