Saving it to the temporary folder rely upon undocumented features which may be broken by a system revision.
I've rewritten my script using keystroke "d" using {command down} and I like the result. The file appears only momentarily, and is deleted before the user can worry about it. (I hope!)
I mentioned earlier that Mail was forgetting where to open a message window. After a closer look at this, I have found that it forgets only in response to my script. But, there is nothing in my script that should cause this and I've tested every possible line of code except the offending line. Perhaps I'll find it later.
After testing in Mt Lion, I restarted into Lion and was surprised to find that Lion's Mail had forgotten, too. That's really strange!
