But if you don't use AppleScript, you're going to be using other code that's going to have to live somewhere. What's the difference?

If they don't want anything in a folder inside one of the Library folders, save your scripts as bundles and embed either a Scripting Addition or an ASObjC library within it. No-one will even know it's there unless they go looking. Heck, and ASObjC library is a 100% vanilla solution: just AppleScript.
