With Shane's code I can set the tag to a specific tag (and not *add* a tag) in the same script. The only real difference is when I manually change the tag since Finder allows me to keep the old tag, so I need to delete it too.

I've extended my workflow to the creation of a Calendar event to go with each project and I'm working on creating a script to transform that event *and* the tag of the associated folder again using Shane's code.

The complicated part is writing the script, not manipulating tags :)

I guess it can be made simple if I'm willing to give up all the other ways of setting tags, like the Finder obviously, but also Default Folder X in save dialogs plus lots of other third-party apps and utilities. Since I'm not willing to give those up, I can never be 100% sure no files have more than one tag in the sequence, which in turn means I have to write more complicated searches or smart folders to be sure my search for files with Draft status doesn't also turn up files that I've tagged Final but neglected to delete the Draft tag from.

This is exactly why the original Mac interface defined a distinction between radio buttons and checkboxes.

There's really no such thing as translating. It's all a scam. We basically just make stuff up and try to make it sound plausible.
