I think the writing was on the wall when Apple released Quicktime X without Applescript support - and a reduced set of codecs and functionality as well.

IMO they are playing catch up with Amazon’s “Alexa-Enabled’ platform, so they are probably pouring resources into some sort of Siri automation.

The deep integration of Filemaker with Applescript has been a godsend for our business, and not only would we sorely miss it, but a transition to something else could be very costly for us.
