Good question Barbara. I would have to lean to the side of the current mode
you are using. These benefits are purported to be "For Members Only". Would
it be fair to open it up for any willy nilly? Isn't this an incentive to
become members of MUG's? What will happen if we as MUG's begin to water down
the process? Will companies begin to no longer go through the work of making
these offers available to UG since just anybody is handed the codes?
If one looks hard enough, the information can be found just about anywhere
when one digs for it. But should we as user group leaders lose the group's
integrity just to be the same as someone else?
Secondly, I'd like to reiterate the question asked by Melanie a way back that
I think needs to be addressed. Yes, I'm aware that procedures are in place
and what they say. But...many of the user groups grumbled and stomped when
the news came out about .Mac. They decided to bite their tongues and choose
to support Apple any way they could, even if it meant using their meager or
not so meager user group funds to pay the $49 for a .Mac account.
They paid and paid gladly and thankfully, but now the offer is out there of a
free account open to UG Ambassadors who pass the Learn & Earn course.
Someone, somewhere needs to come up with a way that these groups can be
reimbursed for the club account that they paid. If no refunds can be made,
then those user groups should be given some offer of a special Apple discount
or something to recover the cost if possible. We love Apple, we want to
support it, but they need to address this matter in some fashion for us.
Who do we need to contact about this? All of my club's leaders purchased
their own accounts, the club purchased it's own account three days before the
announcement came out of the "free" offer for user groups. There has to be a
solution to this problem. I know that ours is not the only user group out
there currently mulling this situation.
