This was one of the ideas I had just at Diane took over for Brigid. I cannot
find all of my old emails on this so here is an outline, then an old email
somewhat related.
One big reason for suggesting the review sharing was vendor costs. I had
talked to Bonnie (C&G) about this back then and found that C&G gave out
something like 300+ copies of each app for reviews.
My thought was this:
A) Instead of 300+ copies out for review, they only need to give say, 10
copies to the review-sharing people.
B) The reviews would be pooled. Perhaps uploaded to a website for UG
editors. Each newsletter could then publish not just one review, but
several, providing different perspectives - or validating conclusions. That
gives richer, more reliable content to the publications. (As I mentioned in
my last post, maybe this is a list-based idea or maybe someone coordinates
it.)
C) The vendor has now saved 300 copies of software but gotten 10 (or fewer)
reviews that more people will read. Now the vendor can put all or some of
those 300 copies to UG prize give-aways.

Hi Diane.
I've found myself a very popular columnist at MacCentral.com - and
suprisingly, many ugs are writing to me asking to reprint my articles. I
keep hearing how hard it is for them to come up with content. I just got to
thinking about a solution to UG newsletter content.
My suggestion is that you start a UG newsletter article swap. One person can
coordinate it, or it can be free-for-all. The appeal of my stuff is that it
is relatively timeless. Things ug members write would be too. Maybe each
group would have a month they are expected to write or maybe they'd each get
a specific assignment. Or have each group submit something from their best
writer(s) for determination. These articles can go in a drop box in a First
Class BBS, or be sent from you via email, or swapped on an editor's email
list.
I thought it would be a good topic to discuss amongst UG leaders at NYC.
You could have a casual meeting in the hotel lobby after the breakfast.
(I think Fred Showker tried some sort of article sales but I think it
didn't take off because it was a paid subscription.)

Hi Deborah,
I think this is a good idea. An editor email list sounds like the best
way to go logistically. Let me investigate on my end, and yes, we can
discuss further in NY. Thanks for the suggestion.
Best regards,
