Jim, My heart goes out to you and your wife during these stress filled days.
I am overjoyed to hear of your wonderful recovery!! Bravo!! May all of
this quickly be just a "memory" of things past.
Like your MUG, LCMUG (Lake County Mac User Group-California), also has a
Summer Hiatus. When we returned for first meeting last Saturday, I set up
an on line conference with a guest speaker from Earthlink, using iChat AV.
This lasted about 30 minutes. Our members were able to engage the guest
speaker in a lively Q & A Session (the topic was Internet & e-mail
security).
Everything worked perfectly! So much so, that I began thinking: We live in
the boonies in northern California, and our group is small (115 members).
It is impossible to get guest speakers. What a wonderful way to get other
guest speakers to virtually visit our MUG. No long drives, no flights,
rental cars, no hotels, no hauling products. All from the comfort of their
office or home.
I would like to contact other MUG's, vendors, agencies, and businesses, to
see who would be interested in working with the MUG community. Perhaps we
can exchange a list of those interested. I know our group would love to
see/talk to MUG's in other areas, esp. those outside the USA.
Apple has given us exiting possibilities with iChat AV. Let's try to find a
way to use this marvelous technology to generate new, exciting, reasons to
attend a User Group meeting! I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on
this.
Best regards,
Janice Kempf
