Tucson Macintosh Users Group has one meeting per month.
6-9 PM there is a self-running slide show with information of importance that runs during settling in time, opening remarks, "dead" periods, and club business. This saves lots of time that used to be used in announcing it all.
6-7 PM two sessions running at the same time: 1) "Mac Tips & Programs" is leader-led with a topic selected by the attendees the month before; time also for general Q&A; slanted more towards "Mac 101" and topics of interest to the newer Mac user; projector & sound in use. 2) "Ask the Experts" is moderated by advanced Mac users; a 15-20 minute "spotlight" topic is chosen the month before; more advanced Q&A; projector & sound in use.
7-9 PM main meeting. 15 minutes for opening remarks & settle in. 7:15-8:45 allows for one large topic or two shorter ones; outside presenters use this time; topics chosen from survey forms handed out & collected each month; projector & sound in use.
[The survey forms (1/4 of a page) are handed out each meeting to everyone; there is space to rate the presenters, make comments, and name subjects they'd like covered. Over time we have accumulated a useful list of desired meeting topics.]
8:45-9:00 PM each meeting is concluded with two raffles: 1) a General Raffle (2 tickets for $1) with general items of interest such as donated books, CD-R/DVD-R packs, small thumb drives, mem card readers, mice, mousepads, logoed items, mugs, etc, and 2) a Special Raffle (1 ticket for $3 or 2/$5) with one "really good thing" such as two iPod Shuffles, two ext 250 HDs, a multi-function network printer, camera and photo printer, etc.
Electronic text newsletter published by email to all & website posting reaches folks the Monday before the Wednesday meeting; contains current Apple/Mac items of interest with web links (for more info) and items of club interest that don't necessarily have to be mentioned at a meeting. The website PDF runs about 15-18 pages of Geneva 12 point type, no top or bottom margins. Newsletter outside sources include everything posted to this list and items/PRs that appear on the various Apple/Mac oriented web sites.
HTH,
Sterett Prevost, President
