Just double-click on the box (a solid selection border should appear around it), and then drag the control you want off of a palette and into the box.

If you have an existing control that is outside the box that you want inside of it instead, then trying to drag it will de-select the box and it won't go inside. So for that case, you need to cut the control, double-click on the box, then paste the control inside. This will disconnect any connections to/from the control when you cut and paste it. C'est la vie.
