And why the hell not?

Because, due to resource constraints, they have to stop somewhere. Do you expect them to teach you how to read English as well? After all, you need to know English to read the documentation!

What is the point of starting with C when at least a third of it will never be used at all, and another third will have to be unlearned?

Because your assumptions are wrong. C is a pretty small language, and it's worth knowing all of it. Some parts may not get used all that often anymore, but when they do pop up, it is handy to at least know which chapter of K&R to look at.

In the larger picture: more knowledge is always useful. It's always useful to have learned something, even if you don't know when you'll use it. And you can never "unlearn" anything.

Brian, we've heard you. You're not saying anything new. There is no great conspiracy here trying to stop you, just the usual mess that we humans make.

Now take the time and energy you spend writing these rants, and go learn something. I guarantee that you, and the world, will be better off.
