To Dustin, and everyone else...
Dustin is not the first to say something like what he has said below.
But at the same time, when I started C, on my Mac, a few weeks ago,
with the goal of moving to Cocoa eventually, I wrote to the list with
more than one beginner C question, and an apology if it wasn't the
right place to do so. One person wrote back with "No more C questions
please" and five others wrote back (although mostly privately) saying
that it was ok, that C is where I need to start to get to Cocoa, and
that this list is all about helping people and so it was fine...
However, Dustin's comments may well be valid, and if so, I for one
don't want to rock the boat. If I could pose the following two
questions please...
1. What is everyone else's opinion (particularly list admin or
whatever) on this? Are the comments below merely the opinion of one
frustrated person, or is he right, and this list REALLY isn't the place
for C-only questions? If responding, please ensure you respond to the
list so we can all see.
2. I don't even know where to start looking for "other forums". I
stumbled across the Apple lists, while browsing through the ADC site
and found myself in a gold mine. If this list really isn't the place
for C questions, can anyone please advise what those "better forums for
C questions than this mailing list" might be.
Thanks, and my apologies if I've rocked the boat already.
David.

Recently, I've noticed many people asking basic C questions on this
list. Questions about conditional expressions, pointers, return
values. This bothers me. Newbie Objective-C questions are one thing
(though I am getting heartily tired of seeing "when do I
retain/release" questions), and I don't have a problem with newbie
AppKit questions, but C?
To you newbie programmers: If you don't know C, you aren't ready.
There are many books at your local library. There are classes out
there too, even in high school. It is easy to teach yourself
everything you need to know about C, especially with the help of the
Internet. There are better forums for C questions than this mailing
list! Please use them!
Thank you, and good night.
