I'm not sure if this is the right place to be asking this, but I have
just a couple more questions about Spotlight:
1) What happens when there are two importers that both handle the same
file type? Does one override the other, or are they both called? If
they're both called, is there a way to eliminate duplicate data in the
metadata store (so I don't get the document popping up twice in search
results)?
2) Importers are called when a file is updated, added, etc. What
happens when I boot my 10.4 machine back into Panther, do some stuff,
and then boot back into Tiger? (Similarly, when I mount my Firewire
drive on a non-10.4 box, then put it back on a 10.4 box.) Does Tiger
re-scan all the files? How does Spotlight know that a drive _hasn't_
been modified on a non-Spotlight machine, so it knows not to scan
everything?
2.1) What happens if I use my Firewire drive on two Tiger machines, one
with more importers (A) than the other (B)? If I plug it into B and add
some files, the metadata is added to that drive's store. If I then plug
it into A, will those files then be scanned by importers that weren't
present on B?
