Well, that's OK for me then.
e-mail is now more media rich than it was in 1998 (when plain text
ruled). People who still want plain-text should also, I guess, plan
to go back to Performas or maybe an 8150 server.

There are at least three reasons plain text still rules:
1) I (the receiver of your message) gets to decide how it should look
"You can get any color you want, as long as it's black"
This argument is only valid if "how it should look" always equals
"unformatted ASCII".
2) plain text can be shown on many mobile devices, so I can read
emails "on the go"
Why would we decide to limit a Mac programming forum to the limitations
of a Blackberry?
3) I can easily apply various searching, filtering, and/or indexing
tools on plain text
Any rich e-mail has a plain-text body embedded in it. If you are
comfortable with grep I'm sure you'll be able to find a way to extract
the text part.
