Regarding the GretagMacbeth ProfileMaker 3 "big hardware bundle" (I assume
this is referring to the "iProfile Bundle"), I would only make one
comment/caveat. This bundle comes with no dongle but instead uses the
SpectroLino itself as the dongle/license key. This functions fine but it
also means that you must haul the 'Lino around when all you may need to use
is the ProfileMaker software. We're a dealer and tend to use it on-site
quite a bit. There are many times when all I need to do is take existing
measurement data and generate the profile in a different way (changing the
separation parameters for instance). I have to hook up the 'Lino just to do
this which means I have to haul it to the customer site. Kind of a pain.
One nice thing they did was ship a USB-to-serial adapter (for the
SpectroScan) with the unit that works just fine. You still need something
like a Keyspan unit however if you want to use the 'Lino connected directly
to your USB-only Mac. I use the unit with a newer G3 PowerBook that is
USB/FireWire only.
Oh, and it comes in purple!
Regards,
Terry
