Certainly, there are rendering intents to deal with the fact that all
colours cannot be reproduced.
The problem that I've experienced is if you check that lab values that your
solid primaries should be producing through the profile, and actually
measure such patches on screen, the variance can be huge. I've always feared
that if the primaries are inaccurate, how can anything else be trusted.
We've also had problems with creation of a monitor profile, the software (I
won't use names) claims it is done, and we have a terrible screen rendering.
Clearly we reprofile, but as far as the software is concerned, it is good to
go.

Of course, and we all know how hard it can be to track down which element in
a complex workflow is actually causing the problem.
