My recommendation is to take a close look at how UCR is generated. I am more
from the old school and when I want a max. black of 95 with a total ink of
300 I expect a max. black of 95 with the CMY components gray balanced under
the K for a total ink of 300. I believe this is reasonable. Proper black
generation is critical to quality separations.

So far Printopen and Colorflow (which
I just started to look at) handle black the way I like.
Not only for the gray axis but also for high-density color shadows.
This is important for quality high-speed offset printing.
I can't speak for ColorFlow and I don't know how much work was put
into the black generation technology.
Printopen 4 is built to make solid separations for the Speedmasters.
And they aren't exactly slow -:).
