Software RIPs vs. Epson Fiery

  • Subject: Software RIPs vs. Epson Fiery

A salesman (take with large grain of salt) told me today that the new
versions of the Fiery hardware RIPs for Epsons have been updated to
accomadate custom profiles and that since Fiery has had exculsive access to
Epson screens that no software RIP out there can compare with the print
quality/dither for repro of the new Epson Fiery hardware RIPs.

This dealer also sells Bestcolor, Wasatch etc. Perhaps the commision on
Hardware RIPs is better? ...or is there any truth to this at all?

I'm going through the Praxisoft Mach 1 debacle right now and trying to weigh
my options.

Do I:

1. continiue using the Mach 1 RIP I now have but supported through
Colorbyte and now called "Imageproof."

2. go with the new licensed product from Praxisoft from ErgoSoft
(Posterprint?). The "all new" Mach 1 RIP.

3. Get a refund and buy Bestcolor XL, Wasatch, or??(fill in the blank).

4. Sell off my kids and buy the (new and improved??) Fiery Hardware RIP

All comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim
